Helmos (Aroania Mountains)

Helmos is at an altitude of 2355m. It is the third highest mountain in the Peloponnese. The ancient name was Aroania Mountains while its contemporary name -Helmos- is of Slavic origin and means snowy mountain. Because of its natural beauty and its rare species of plants, birds and animals it became part of the network Natura 2000. Helmos attracts a large number of visitors mainly because of the ski resort situated in Vathia Lakka, 14 km. east from Kalavryta and the climbing routes that exist on the mountain. The possibilities for recreation the mountain offers are unique: beautiful landscapes, traditional villages, archaeological sites, caves. Helmos is ideal for visiting all year round.
