Cave of the Lakes

The cave is located at an altitude of 800 meters near Kastria village, on the provincial road Kleitoria - Kalavryta. The speleological research has shown that it is the bed of an underground river (2100m. length). The cave got its name from the lakes that have formed inside on a three levels scale. Findings like fireplaces, successive floors, ceramics and tools reveal continuous but not uninterrupted use of the cave from the Neolithic to the Late Bronze Age.

Akoli Beach (Avythos)

The beach got its name from the very deep and blue waters of the gulf. The long beach consists of pebbles and there is not much of a natural shade. However, along the beach you will find a pedestrian street with various shops. Akoli Beach is ideal for those who love beach volley, rackets and kite surf.

Aroanios River

Its waters spring up from the foothills of Helmos and then they join Ladonas river. Tall trees and lush vegetation fortify the clean waters of the river which also powers the watermills found in the area. Don’t forget to visit the trout fish farm in Planitero.

Helmos (Aroania Mountains)

Helmos is at an altitude of 2355m. It is the third highest mountain in the Peloponnese. The ancient name was Aroania Mountains while its contemporary name -Helmos- is of Slavic origin and means snowy mountain. Because of its natural beauty and its rare species of plants, birds and animals it became part of the network Natura 2000. Helmos attracts a large number of visitors mainly because of the ski resort situated in Vathia Lakka, 14 km. east from Kalavryta and the climbing routes that exist on the mountain.

Vouraikos Gorge - Odontotos

The valley of Vouraikos used to be a lake, like the whole area around Kalavryta. However, the waters had to find an outlet to the sea and “engraved” the magnificent gorge. Vouraikos gorge starts 3 km. north of the village of Kato Zachloro at an altitude of 730 meters and continues alongside the river covering a distance of 20 km to reach the village Diakopto.

Waterfalls, caves with stalactites and stalagmites, the rich vegetation of plane trees, fir trees, olive trees and oleanders make this primitive scenery unique in Greece.
